TFCU EMPLOYEE SANDY BERRY TO REPRESENT TUCSON AT WHITE HOUSE

(Published September 27, 2010)

Tucson, AZ
- TFCU Business Services Officer Sandy Berry traveled to Washington DC today to attend the signing of the $42 billion dollar “jobs bill” by President Obama. The Senate-approved bill recently received 237 favorable votes in the House, which in turn put it on Obama’s desk. The bill will offer sizeable tax breaks and “make more loans available for small businesses,” Obama says. Approximately $30 billion dollars of the total amount will go towards lenders with less than $10 billion in assets, increasing their capital and the likelihood of approved loans for small businesses.

Tucson Federal Credit Union stood-out as one of the few lenders still making loans available to small businesses, prompting Shivani Dubey, Associate District Director for Business Development at the SBA Arizona District Office, to contact Sandy and request her attendance. Sandy’s travel expenses were covered by the White House, and her arrival coordinated by SBA Headquarters in conjunction with White House security.

Sandy’s appearance can be seen on CSPAN’s White House coverage entitled “SMALL BUSINESS LENDING AND TAX BENEFITS BILL SIGNING.” After signing the bill, President Obama approaches Sandy and they exchange a handshake approximately 17 minutes and 22 seconds into the video.

Tucson Federal Credit Union was founded in 1937 as Tucson Teachers Federal Credit Union. TFCU is a not-for-profit financial cooperative governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. Membership is open to anyone who lives, works, worships, volunteers, or attends school in Pima County. Today, TFCU has grown to more than 42,000 members and seven locations in Tucson, Marana, and Sahuarita. Their growth and success comes from those members who use their services, a dedicated group of volunteers who are elected by their members to represent them, and a great staff who are committed to creating an exceptional experience.
